It's for the good of gaming, leave it to mobile to ruin a timeless classic like Tales of Phantasia. Bandai-Namco should focus on getting those two Idolm@ster titles out for PS4 and Vita (and none of this Cinderella Girls and Million Live idols as rivals crap or I'll be steaming mad, make them producible or no buy).

I don't see why they had to go all scorched earth with this and make the app and saves unusable for the people that already of it installed

They should have never done this from the beginning. The only Tales games that should be on mobile are the ones meant to be actual mobile phone games, like the entire Tales of Mobile library.

This is why I don't support digital releases. You only "lease" the software, and the company can revoke your access at any time for any reason.

I agree, all they did was turn a timeless classic into a cash grab just to milk unsuspecting players (particularly those new to the series who may not know the game is available for cheap on consoles and handhelds) of money. That type of shady madness needs to stop as it's killing the soul of the industry in Japan.

Oh really!!?? I never thought I'd see this coming at all Rolling Eyes . Well nothing of major value was lost. For those who want to play this game the it was meant to be played ps1 translation is still available and I highly suggest using this version.

Doesn't seem like a very smart move just on the grounds that people are going to be hesitant to play their mobile games in the future, free or not.

Good. Get that junk out of here. Guys, you can get a version of this game for around 10-15 bucks for the GBA at most online vendors. Just a fun, old RPG with no pay-to-win gimmicks or a touch screen interface.

The problem is how Bandai Namco handled this port. You are required to be online at all times, your saves are tied to cloud and worst of all it's riddled with micro transactions.

I honestly agree with Apollo-kun nab the gba version while you can. However if you don't have a problem with roms or iso's I would recommend getting the snes or ps1 version with the fan translation if you so choose.

I have the GBA cart that I can play on my GameCube for an English version and I have the Japanese Playstation version for any fancier version so I never touched mobile phone version anyway.

It was a BAD idea trying to micro-transaction an RPG, espeically for a game that has a fanbase by which 90% already owns a copy of the game in some form.
...They should have just ported the GBA cart for $10 to $15..

Considering this was only on IOS and not android (which makes up something like 70 percent of the market last time I checked), ie if you don't have an Iphone you can't play, nothing of value was lost.

It was free, there was nothing you lost here since you paid nothing for it.

You really don't get it, do you? It doesn't matter if it was free. That wasn't the issue. The port was poorly handled and made impossible to play, forcing people to reply on IAPs to make any progress at all, which is just poor conduct on their part. Deactivating half of the save points we're familiar with from the console version and requiring you to be online to play? How is this treatment of Phantasia, the game that began the Tales series, showing any respect for the original creation or the people wanting to play it? All I can say is good riddance.

My point isn't for ToP. I don't play mobile games, so this doesn't affect me.

My point is, that for all digital games, you are not purchasing the game, the same way if you buy a physical disc/cartridge/whatever. If you buy a physical copy, it is yours to do whatever you want with. If you "buy" a digital copy, what you're buying is a license. A license that can be revoked at any time, for any reason, if the company sees fit.

This is just one example, where they're denying people the right to play the game. Sure, it was free-to-play, but even if it were a paid game, they could also do this, and it would be perfectly legal, and you'd be out the money you spent on the game.
