So it wasn't a whole new season, but a special one-off episode...

Thank God. I too much backlogging to go through before even making time to catch up on this show. (Only on episode 20 or something)

It is a great sign nonetheless. It means that the anime branch of the franchise is not "dead" at all and we'll be getting it sooner rather than later.

A nice announcement none the less, but I'm hoping for another season of the anime.
They have about 80 or so chapters they can animate, which usually equals about 30 or so episodes worth, so it's just a question of when rather than if.

At least we get to see Gintama one more time.

Or maybe if wait a bit longer (say, over 100+ chapters at least) and add some fillers, we will get 52 episodes in total which is worthy for one year.

I think the first 20 episodes are infamous at this point for being the cutoff point for Gintama. It's a shame, because those are really the worst episodes in the whole series.

There are some really amazing story arcs in Gintama, and some episodes that were so funny that I'll never, ever forget them. If you get the chance, give it another chance Smile

Don't be too disappointed that all they're announcing is a Jump Festa tour special. Remember the "fake" trailer for the first movie, the fake trailer for the Shinsengumi movie, the "final" episode 150, the second movie being "final"/the end of the franchise, etc etc etc. The gorilla loves to surprise his fans...
