another brave step made by adult-swim. i hope some day they will become a seperated channel from cn, and watching animes and stuff like "family guy" (
 don't know how to call them...) all day.

In the US, I think any cartoons will always be thought of as "for kids". I agree that it'd be great to have an AS channel, but I doubt it would (or could) happen.

I disagree, the Anime Network is already shifting to a linear format. If AS could get enough titles to separate themselves from their CN programming block and become a linear station it could work. The problem is that it will have direct compeition with ADV's Anime Network, so I'm not sure how many series other than FUNi and Bandai it could get. |

It would be nice to have a AS channel, but since I don't even have the Anime Channel anything would be an improvement. There are also other anime dubbing houses out there besides Funimation and Bandai, but they are easily the largest ones.
One nice thing is that there will be another source to get DVD's for AS comedy block which might drop prices some elsewhere, but I won't hold my breath on that. |

Actually ADV would be the biggest, at least in terms of the number of series it gets, and it's distrobution. And my point was the if there was an AS channel, it would have to compete with ADV for broadcast rights. I'm not sure AS would have enough money to really do that, except for in the cases of Bandai and FUNi, whom they already have a decent relationship with. |

The nature of the Adult Swim channel lets the channel acquire non-Japanese animation as well as anime. This expanded available library wiould actually any reap competiton from the Anime Network mostly insignificant.

I'm not so sure about that. Of course, I'm speaking about AS breaking off from CN and starting their own linear network, not the current AS block that runs on CN. They would have to aquire a great deal of animation intended for "mature" audiences. This means they would have to aquire broadcast rights for any shows they want to play, and someone else may already own the broadcast rights. Either that or they would have to produce their own shows to fill the programming schedule, (not just one or two, but many) at a fast enough rate to keep the programming new, and not be plagued by reruns of all the series all the time. The logical "mature" content they could aquire that would attract an audience, and is a well that will never run dry as far as new titles goes, is anime. This would require them to compete with other channels (mainly Anime Network and Encore Action), for broadcast rights. Anime Network will have rights to all of ADV's collection, so AS is already blocked out of those series. AS would have first crack at FUNi and Bandai titles, unless Anime Network decides they really want them, in that case I'm not sure who would win. In any case, it would be tough for AS. |

I checked my Video on Demand....and I have the AS channel. So I did a quick check of it. There's Outlaw Star, The Brak Show, Space Ghost Coast to Coast....mostly their in-house shows. There's a few anime shows on there but I don't know if they are planning on keeping that up.

I'm not sure if you have the same shows as what's on my AS VOD, but I have Big O, Outlaw Star, S_CRY_Ed, and Witch Hunter Robin, in the way of anime. Since they are just getting started it's not a surprise there's not a lot of programming on it. |

Outlaw Star and Gundam W: Endless Waltz are puportedly the Toonami versions. Everything else seems to be unedited. |

Alright, since I live out in the sticks, I'm not sure what this VoD is, but I think I get it. Is it one of those stations where you can pick from a block of shows what you want to watch?

Yeah, it's usually available on cable providers and some satellite as well (I think). It's where you have a list of shows, and can choose which one you want to watch, whenever you want to, and you can pause and rewind and rewatch and all that good stuff. |
