Damn, I was hoping for TV series...

Oh well, a film is better than nothing I suppose. Looking forward to it.

Err... slightly disappointing. But it could be okay as long as the subject material is extremely focused.

As someone who suffered repeatedly from Hollywood's (mis)treatment of IPs, seeing a story with a lot of content (written media such as books, mangas, LNs; interactive media such as (J)RPG, card games, VNs; and periodic/episodic media as such TV shows) getting a movie version is making me become wary of the end result. Hope whichever studio is handling the animation will at least make a coherent story that respects the manga's plot and characters.

Well I'm disappointed. I was hoping this was a full series since I heard great things about the manga...Maybe I'll see the movie at some point.

You all are looking at it the wrong way. First off, anime movies often have higher budgets than TV shows, so that means we can expect the movie to be well animated. Secondly, that just means they will probably stick to the story of the one-shot. The only way this would be a bad thing is if they try to jam the whole manga's story into one movie. But we can't make any real judgements until we see the staff.

Personally, I want the people who worked on Watamote to handle this.

I could see this being a really powerful film if it covers pretty much just the childhood arc. Kind of like an introduction to the series for newcomers. It worked very well as a one-shot, so I hope the movie does equally well.

And here I was thinking that a lot of the series side characters were unnecessary and just added to the length of the series. A movie adaptation would better serve the core emotions than a TV series.

Better than an OVA series? Probably not.

Ok. Next step: Fix the art.

You don't like the art? Or the art style?

From what I know if this series, I think that it could work well as a film. Though, part of me is disappointed we aren't getting a series.

Either way, I'm still going to be reading the manga when Kodansha USA starts releasing it next year.

Wow, what a disappointment. I knew it was too good to be true; we get plenty of ecchi/harem crap each year but when a manga with substance is about to receive an adaptation it gets the movie treatment.

Madness! I hope there'll be an out-of-this-world miracle that will swap World Trigger's 50 episodes for Koe no Katachi's 1 movie project...

It's obvious that T&A but there are serious shows with substance that do get TV versions.

Only downside I see to it being a movie is you'll have to wait longer to see it (if you don't want to venture into the dark realms of evilness).

There's no inherent benefit to making something longer. That often just leads to filler. (50 episodes of World Trigger? Let's switch to the drying paint channel...) They probably aren't cutting the runtime to save money, since movie budget-per-minute is so much higher, and they presumably also have a workable plan to make a movie-length version, also because of money. And, of course, higher budget means better animation.

It's a very serious and realistic story, from what I've read of it, so they probably decided it has enough mainstream appeal to be a movie instead of a late-night anime that only otaku will watch. Only natural.

I hope they don't skip too much of the story to cram it into a feature length film. Then again, there are parts that could be skipped. If they pick and choose well, the film could be an improvement on an already great manga.
