This is excellent news. Hell, if a Eric Khoo can do a feature on Yasuhiro Tatsumi's work then why not. This is what I want to see more of. Features like this, because animated films in the West are sucking royally.

Indeed, we need more Taniguchi and Tatsumi adaptions. And since 11/22 episodes on noitamiNA are not happening anytime soon, this has to suffice.

I've heard of the manga before but this, this I did not expect at all. I'm not very interested in the manga but I'll keep my eye out on this. It's not everyday that a Japanese manga gets made into a Western animated film, let alone something like Summit of the Gods.

From Mallory's Wiki page:
Quote:
George Herbert Leigh Mallory (18 June 1886 – 8 or 9 June 1924)[1] was an English mountaineer who took part in the first three British expeditions to Mount Everest in the early 1920s.

During the 1924 British Mount Everest expedition, Mallory and his climbing partner Andrew "Sandy" Irvine both disappeared on the North-East ridge during their attempt to make the first ascent of the world's highest mountain. The pair were last seen when they were about 800 vertical feet (245m) from the summit.

Mallory's ultimate fate was unknown for 75 years, until his body was discovered on 1 May 1999 by an expedition that had set out to search for the climbers' remains. Whether Mallory and Irvine reached the summit of Everest before they died remains a subject of speculation and continuing research.

If someone actually found his camera, that could be worth quite a bit of money.
