Figured the pachislot/pachinko business wouldn't pan out. The problem with them is their audience has little room for growth and is primarily in Japan. Not a great business to invest in.

Thank goodness they realized that the Slot business is no longer as profitable as it was during the 2000's.
I hope with this the company improves and returning at its glory days despite the challenge is higher. |

new regulations that make it harder for nonjapanese companies to get inot the pachinko market and with snkp now being chinese, well, this was expected.

SNK Playmore has just been clinging to life like a zombie for the past decade pretty much. SNK's already been through one bankruptcy before.

Wait, so if the pachinko business is declining, why is Konami trying to jump headfirst into it? And what will become of Sammy, for which pachinko is its main thing but also owns SEGA and Atlus?

Meh, I'll take it, it's not necessarily the embracing of their product as a competitive game (YET) but I'll take it.
-Because Konami is a shit show, they've pretty much cut off their nose to spite their face. -I think it'd be kinda misguided for Sammy to sell off SEGA/Atlus at this point as with the decline of their central market, their best option is to embrace the rise of gaming in the global market. Capcom is just beginning to do this, SNK likely sees the same opportunity and finally got off their butts to grab a piece of the pie. I think SEGASAMMY has the same potential here but Jesus Christ SEGA is just awful right now, they need to fix their image first. Up next I'm expecting ArcSys to announce a year round tournament season in cooperation with someone larger than themselves (duh, SONY) to really hammer in the new rise of the global gaming market. |

You will see so many pachinko parlors in Japan. Amazingly they are just as abundant in small backwater towns as they are in the big cities. How they make money just amazes me to no end.

In the end, they're gambling machines. And gambling machines, when you place them in the right spot, are pretty much a huge source of money for doing next to nothing. In 2000, WMS Industries was struggling. Then, they decided to focus on gambling machines. Thirteen years later, Scientific Games bought WMS for $1.5 billion.
It's why it's a surprise to me that the pachislot industry is shrinking. Or maybe it's merely turned into something slightly less lucrative...? I know Las Vegas's visitorship for gambling has declined dramatically in the past few years, though this was more than offset by visitors who came for non-gambling purposes. |
