Just learned that Iczer-1 and Dangaion are getting BDs as well. I would hope Belladonna getting this means that Cleopatra and 1001 Arabian Nights are not far behind. Those looked good even as restored DVDs, so a BD would just be impeccable.

Good the last news of this was some time ago i thought this was perhaps not gonna come out after all ... already have this movie with German subs but the big tezuka nut that i am this still verry exciting gonna need to have that book also !!!
One thing i have to note Tezuka did not actually make this movie neither was a in any way really involved in production ... (perhaps only in early stages ..) cause he left Mushi in 1971 !!!

Since this was obviously a film production, that doesn't have any meaning. You could do an 8K scan of a 16mm production, but I don't think that would amount to much. And no, it wouldn't be the first even then. Gothicmade was supposedly 6K, but if it was it was 6K of ugly, and doesn't seem that anyone liked it.

Not by long shot. There have many others, including the Ghibli films and Giant Robo. A 4K telecine isn't particularly remarkable at this point.

As impressive as a 4K-restored show might look, I'm not sure if it's much different from a show featured on Blu-Ray...

They did it for Giant Robo, but also did a bit of DVNR. Does 4K even matter unless they have a 4K delivery system? Just downscaling it back to 1080p for BD doesn't necessarily help you, but I guess it means the production company already has a 4K transfer ready to go for the future.

Been holding back on watching the film until I imported the Japanese animerama DVD trilogy, so I am surprised to hear about this restoration project today. The trailer and stills from Cinelicious Pics look fantastic! I will try to attend a screening with my preorder ready beforehand. Thanks for this news article. Very Happy

@TonyTonyChopper

I'm not sure if this is what you are looking for, but you can get the hardcover book plus, "the upcoming Blu-Ray release of the restored feature film by Cinelicious Pics; the official U.S. theatrical one-sheet 27"x39" poster; an alternate theatrical poster featuring artwork only available with the limited edition; a Belladonna enamel jewelry pin; and a promotional postcard."

From Hat & Beard Press. It may be worth contacting them to see if they ship overseas.

I got to watch this not long ago; it is a very interesting art piece of a movie as it was. I can only imagine what it will look like restored digitally. I can't even view 4k resolution but if I can afford an official copy before they go into collector's value I'm down; other than that, I'll settle for any economical copy they can offer for collectors.

I think it looks divine O.o If all the movie will look like this then I really want to see it, I kind of fond of the watercolor design in the film...
