I had the good fortune of being able to see this movie in theaters in Japan and I had a great time. It really blew me away with its visuals and cinematography and its very effective use of metaphors.

My absolute favorite scene that left a really deep impression on me is when spoiler[Kiss-shot Acerola-orion Heart-under-blade was hit with the full weight of the reality of the situation that she was in. Being on the brink of death, she was forced to beg and plead for blood, squirming helplessly on the floor, bleeding all over the place. The cries of a baby that were overlaid on her begging really made her seem all the more powerless, pitiful and helpless. The sense of uneasiness was compounded by the fact that we as viewers were privy to her prideful nature.] Loved that scene to death with its beautiful execution.

Thought this was a review for the light novel and I was super excited, because I just finished it, but then I realized it was for the movie. Which I haven't seen.

Anyway, on a more on topic point, why is this being split? Sure the film may have been a little longer than average (at least in my mind) I can't imagine why you would split this story.

Nick reviewed the novel as well, a while back. animenewsnetwork.com/review/kizumonogatari/wound-tale/novel/.97040

They probably wanted to spread the story out for two main reasons: to make money, because there's no way they aren't going to milk a franchise that prints so much money, and because they wanted to do the story justice and give it as much space to unfold as it needs. But probably more the former than the latter.

The main reason is the director and Shinbo. Of course SHAFT are known for milking series but I don't think they'll milk it to the point where its quality drops below its high standard.
Oishi and Shinbo both have a tendancy to get into super nitty gritties when it comes to series they like. It varies depending on who Shinbo works with, but Oishi and Shinbo have shown already that when they work together they always want to tell everything, through both visual and the traditional method of storytelling at the same time. Most likely the run time for the movie went over 3 hours and they had to split it up.

I think besides Kizu and the current Koyomi we wont get any other monogatari series this year, as SHAFT most likely want Oishi to direct the final season of the 'final season' novels, so keeping monogatari on the radar also ensures that the hype will be there.

But in saying that, this movies series took 6 years to make, that's alot of money they spent, they need to milk it to some degree to be able to get that spent money back

The opening scenes with Araragi's panicked breathing was absolutely amazing.

I forget, have they already announced when the second part will be open in theaters?

I'm so hyped for this movie; I have been like a child unable to sleep counting down to the moment of truth.

Kizumonogatari will be one to go down in anime history. I really can't wait for Owarimonogatari 2nd Cour too though, It will be wise to use Kizumonogatari's momentum to get a shit lot more of audience. Maybe pair it with Zuko-Owarimonogatari to finally end Final Season.

Yeah, I believe June 2016 was mentioned at some point. Either way, Part 2 is set for Summer unless it gets delayed.

There was a clean way to read that? Laughing
Seriously though, this film features my two favorite girls from the series in all of their beautiful glory, so this is basically just going to be porn for me.
