I think she's a fine pick, though a tad on the predictable side. Still, looking forward to her performance.

I guess what I am not understanding is why they are doing this through Kickstarter? I thought Funimation already had the licensing rights to the series when they got it several years ago?

Caitlin Glass is a solid VA; she should do a great job voicing Hitomi.

Somehow the casting of Van and Hitomi is reminding me of Full Metal Alchemist...

Okay, so I really loved the Tarot designs in Escaflowne. But $175 on Kickstarter to get them with the DVDs? I'd swear if these forums weren't child friendly. That's utterly insane for a 26 episode anime. This is part of the reason why no one buys physical copies of anime anymore. Who drops $50 on 13 episodes of a 26 episode series at a media store? No one. Last time I was at FYE(For Your Entertainment, one of the few media stores left on the West Coast), I asked the nice lady wearing an FMA necklace behind the counter when the last time someone bought anime(That wasn't pre-owned or on clearance) from that store was. She said, to her memory, it was the latest release of Sailor Moon. Even used, physical anime isn't selling. Half Price Books, a really well known used book and media store, is slowly eliminating their anime section.
$175 for a 26 episode series with a deck of paper cards is why the anime bubble is going to burst again, just like in 2007 or 2008.

The dub created by Bandai years agom they used a cut version. Funimation wants to release the uncut version of it. The first 9 episodes or something have some extra scenes. Those extra scenes do not have a dub, its only in Japanse. Funimation is trying through kickstarter to see if people want an new uncut dub version of Escaflowne.
You can ask yourself: Why would a big company like Funimation even use kickstarter? What if Funimation went to dub the uncut version and none ended up being interested in it? They only are using it to see if there is a big enough demand for it. In my opinion they are doing the right thing.

Ehhh... Cailtin Glass is not a great pick for Hitomi. She's a tad too shrill. I'd have gone with Alexis Tipton or Leah Clark. Glass is fine if you're doing a role that's intended to be kind of flaky, like Miria in Baccano, but a more serious role? It'll turn out like her Winry Rockbell: annoying.
Even so, maybe she'll surprise me.

A better reference is probably Gunslinger Girl (which for the record is still one of my favorite dubs). She played Triela in that series, which was definitely a serious role, and never sounded the least bit shrill to me.

You have seen the prices for Japanese DVDs/BluRays?
They usually don't have subs or dubs either.
We get it way cheaper, with translations here.
Gundam Wing's BluRays were about 600$ for there series,
EW, CD dramas, and a book!
Back to Escaflowne Kickstater,
you get way more then just 26 eps. and some cards for $175!
- You get both DVD/BluRay (Series and movie)
- a perfect-bound art book
- bonus DVDs of the original dub version
- theatrical-sized poster

The days of me spending $175 on a series ended in the early 00's. I am not a fan of companies using kickstarter when they clearly have the capital. But on top of that they want to over charge and justify it with some scraps of paper? I would have been perfectly happy to spend 30-50 on a blu-ray re-release of the old dub just to add it to my collection. But this is unconscionable.
