Big Hero 6 Tops Yo-kai Watch for 4th Straight Weekend

Disney's Big Hero 6 topped the Japanese box office for the fourth weekend in a row this past weekend, selling 260,000 tickets for 349.4 million yen (about US$2.950 million). It has now sold a grand total of 5.5 million tickets for a new total of more than 7 billion yen (US$60 millon). Meanwhile, Yōkai Watch: Tanjō no Himitsu da Nyan! (Yo-kai Watch: The Movie: It's the Secret of Birth, Meow!), which also topped 7 billion yen in its first 37 days, fell to #3. Annie opened at #2.

The two films both opened on December 20. The Yōkai Watch film opened at #1 and broke Howl's Moving Castle's record for the highest-grossing opening weekend of any Japanese film. Big Hero 6 pulled ahead in the films' third weekend.

Meanwhile, the super sentai film Ressha Sentai ToQger vs Kyoryuger The Movie fell from #4 to #5 in its second weekend, and the Psycho-Pass film dropped from #5 to #6 in its third weekend. The live-action film of Io Sakisaka's Blue Spring Ride (Ao Haru Ride) romance manga rose from #8 to #7 in its seventh weekend.
