Tom Cruise Pitches Edge of Tomorrow Sequel Concept

Actor Tom Cruise said at the New York premiere for his Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation film on Monday that he pitched an idea for a sequel to the Edge of Tomorrow film. He presented the idea when he met with Edge of Tomorrow screenwriter (and Rogue Nation director) Christopher McQuarrie and Edge of Tomorrow director Doug Liman.
Cruise also asked his co-star Emily Blunt about her availability for the hypothetical sequel, and he said that she responded, "Give me another year, please."
Edge of Tomorrow adapts the novel All You Need Is Kill by Hiroshi Sakurazaka. The film stars Tom Cruise, Emily Blunt, Charlotte Riley, Kick Gurry, Bill Paxton, Kidus Henok, Tony Way, and Marianne Jean-Baptiste.

The epic action of Edge of Tomorrow unfolds in a near future in which an alien race has hit the Earth in an unrelenting assault, unbeatable by any military unit in the world. Lt. Col. Bill Cage (Cruise) is an officer who has never seen a day of combat when he is unceremoniously dropped into what amounts to a suicide mission. Killed within minutes, Cage now finds himself inexplicably thrown into a time loop—forcing him to live out the same brutal combat over and over, fighting and dying again...and again.But with each battle, Cage becomes able to engage the adversaries with increasing skill, alongside Special Forces warrior Rita Vrataski (Blunt). And, as Cage and Rita take the fight to the aliens, each repeated encounter gets them one step closer to defeating the enemy.
Viz Media published Sakurazaka's novel in English to launch its Haikasoru imprint for Japanese science fiction and fantasy in 2009. The book's cover art was drawn by Yoshitoshi ABe (Serial Experiments Lain, Haibane Renmei). Viz also released a one-volume full-color graphic novel adaptation of the story last year. Nick Mamatas (Move Under Ground) adapted the story and Lee Ferguson (Green Arrow, Miranda Mercury) drew the art.
The novel spawned a manga by artist Takeshi Obata (Hikaru no Go, Death Note, Bakuman) and writer Ryōsuke Takeuchi (ST&RS) in Shueisha's Young Jump magazine in January 2014, and the final chapter was published last year. Sakurazaka himself is working on a sequel novel.
