Sony Sells 25.3 Million PS4 Units Worldwide

Sony announced on Thursday via its quarterly earning report that it sold 3 million units of its PlayStation 4 game console during the first quarter of fiscal year 2015 (from April 1 to June 30). The number is up from 2.7 million units sold during the same time last year.
The company's games division earned US$2.37 billion, a 12.1% increase in revenue over the same period last year. The report attributes the increase primarily to PS4 software sales and PS4 peripheral device unit sales.
Sony has increased its forecast for fiscal year 2015 for the number of PS4s it expects to sell from 16 million units to 16.5 million units.
Sony sold 7.5 million PS4 units in fiscal year 2013, and 14.8 million units in fiscal year 2014, bringing the new worldwide sales total to 25.3 million units as of June 30. The console first launched in the U.S. and Canada in November 2013 and in Japan in February 2014.
