Yasuhisa Hara's Kingdom Manga Has 28 Million Copies in Print

posted on by Kevin Yuan

This year's 8th issue of Shueisha's Weekly Young Jump magazine announced on Thursday that Yasuhisa Hara's Kingdom manga has 28 million copies in print. The issue features a special Kingdom-themed puzzle, in which readers search for keywords hidden throughout the magazine to crack a code.

Hara's historical manga centers around the slave boy, Xin, and his dream of becoming a great general for the state of Qin. Xin helps Ying Zheng, the young Qin king who shares his desire to unify China, rise to power within the state. The manga follows Xin as he does all that he can to become a superior commander of an army capable of defeating the Seven Warring States.

A real-life escape game event in collaboration with the manga will open in Japan on March 24. Shueisha began streaming a live-action short based on the manga last April to of the manga's 10th anniversary.

The record-setting manga has been running in Weekly Young Jump since 2006. Shueisha released the 45th compiled book volume in Japan on Thursday. A television anime adaptation premiered in 2012, and a second season premiered in 2013. Funimation streamed the series in North America, and released the both series on DVD last year.
