Teasing Master Takagi-san Manga Has 4 Million Copies in Print

Shogakukan revealed on Friday that Sōichirō Yamamoto's Teasing Master Takagi-san (Karakai Jōzu no Takagi-san), manga a total of 4 million copies in digital sales and in print copies.

Yamamoto launched the manga in Gessan mini, the accompanying booklet to Shogakukan's Gessan magazine, in 2013. After Yamamoto finished serializing his Fudatsuki no Kyōko-chan manga in Gessan in June 2016, Teasing Master Takagi-san moved to Gessan in July. Shogakukan published the manga's eighth compiled book volume on Friday. The new volume also has a limited edition with a figure.

Yen Press has licensed the manga.

The second volume of Mifumi Inaba's spinoff manga Karakai Jōzu no (Moto) Takagi-san also shipped on Friday. Inaba launched that spinoff on the Manga ONE app last July. The manga has a total of 500,000 copies in print (including digital sales). The manga focuses on Takagi as an adult with her daughter. Yūma Suzu also launched another spinoff titled Koi ni Koi Suru Yukari-chan, which continues the story of the characters from Ashita wa Doyōbi, and particularly focuses on Yukari. The manga launched in Gessan in July.

Teasing Master Takagi-san topped a poll by Honya Club on bookstore employees' recommended manga for 2017 in February 2017, and it was also nominated for the 2017 Manga Taisho award.

The manga is inspiring a television anime adaptation that premiered on January 8 and is currently airing. The anime also adapts stories from Yamamoto's Ashita wa Doyōbi manga. Crunchyroll is streaming the series as it airs in Japan, and Funimation is streaming a dub.
