Govt. in Talks to Bring France's Annecy Animation Festival to India

posted on by Adriana Hazra

Ravinder Bhakar announced at the Focus on India panel discussion at the Venice Film Festival on Saturday that the Indian government is in talks with France's Annecy Animation Festival to bring a local version of the festival to the country. Bhakar is the CEO of India's Central Board of Film Certification and Children Films Society of India, managing director of the National Film Development Corporation and director general of Films Division.

The panel discussion at the Venice Film Festival centered on building a common audience for Italy and India. Bhakar made the statement in response to panelist Cristian Jezdic stating that he is hoping for a strong animation film festival in India. Bhakar responded, "Talks are ongoing with Annecy and we will announce it very soon.”

Established in 1960, Annecy is the world's oldest and largest animation film festival. This year's event took place from June 13-18 in the French town of the same name.
