Trivia:

When Ray is walking through the city of Manchester at the beginning of the movie, for a few seconds Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels can be seen talking together on the street (Marx is the smaller one with white hair and beard, Engels is the taller one with the mustache). Both men were living in England at the time of the story.

In the movie Stay Alive, there is a giant poster for Steamboy in Swink Sylvania's appartment.

An external shot of Scarlett with various flags from the Exhibition waving in the background shows the modern-day Canadian flag, which was introduced in 1965, Canada itself was only recognized as a nation on 1 July 1867. Also in this shot and a number of shots later on (like the Queen's entrance to Crystal Palace) the current flags of the Australian states New South Wales, South Australia and Victoria which are based on the defaced British Blue Ensign can also be seen. These flags were not adopted until 1876, 1904 and 1877 respectively.

Anna Paquin & Patrick Stewart have both previously starred in two films togethers as Rogue & Prof. X in the X-Men films.

Alfred Molina, who played the English role of Eddie Steam, is best known to the public as playing Doctor Octopus in 2005's Spider-Man 2. Interestingly, the characters are similar in nature. Both are men of science who fell victim to their experiments and were disfigured because of it. They continued their research despite the fact, touting the idea that major sacrifices must be made for their work to succeed.
