The character who first appeared in episode 3, Julio Cesare, his name is a reference to Julius Caeser, the ancient Roman Emperor
In episode 6, during the play, there was a reference to the liar's mouth, which will not let your hand come out when you tell a lie while your hand is inside. this is a reference to a real liar's mouth located in italy, but it was a mask of a river god and not a flower, and your hand will be cut off instead of not being able to take it out
In episode 8, at 4:19, Louise can be seen shouting the more polite version of the much celebrated "ore wo dare da to omotteiru" line from Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann.
