Robot Carnival made its American cable television debut on the Sci-Fi Channel alongside Vampire Hunter D and Lensman The Movie.
Morimoto Koji's contribution to "Robot Carnival" is the piece called Franken's Gears. A brief story about a mad scientist, Doctor Franken, watching his robot come to life. Years later, Koji would go on to direct "Noisman Sound Insect." In it, there is a mad scientist character. His name? "Doctor Franken" of course.
"Nightmare"'s chase scene is inspired by the Disney The Legend of Sleepy Hollow cartoon. "A Tale of Two Robots" is a spoof of WW2 Japanese propaganda films.
Robot Carnival is one of the first anime with the use of cartoon sound effects from the Hanna-Barbera Sound Library.
