Tora makes his first trip into the big city. Things have changed a lot since he wandered the quiet villages of 15th century Japan and he encounters problems he never envisaged - just because you can see through glass, it doesn't mean you can walk through it; chewing gum is hell to get out of fur; and not only humans are allergic to perfume... But there are worse problems for the human population. Construction workers disturb a huge stone covering a heavy wooden box, and despite the warnings of an old man they let out the spirits inside. When they pay with their lives for this folly, the story makes news - and of course, Ushio blames Tora, who was in town at the time. Furious at being disbelieved, Tora sets out to solve the mystery. Eventually he and Ushio learn that the spirits were imprisoned eighty years ago by a powerful mystic who is the image of Ushio's classmate Mayoko...
