New Fox Engine Demo Is an Open-World Metal Gear Game

Metal Gear Solid Ground Zero unveiled at Wednesday's Metal Gear anniversary event

At the end of Konami's "Metal Gear 25th Anniversary Party" event on Thursday, franchise creator Hideo Kojima unveiled Metal Gear Solid Ground Zero, a new demo of Kojima Productions' in-house Fox Engine for real-time graphics rendering. However, Metal Gear Solid Ground Zero is not the typical game engine tech demo; it is actually being made as an open-world stealth game.

While Metal Gear Solid Ground Zero and Fox Engine itself run on personal computers that are the rough equivalent of current-generation consoles such as the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, Kojima Production is also developing them for the next generation of consoles.

Kojima presented a video and a scene of actual gameplay at Wednesday's event, but photography was prohibited during this portion of the event. Despite Metal Gear Solid Ground Zero being developed as a game, Kojima did not officially state yet if the game will be released to the public. Nevertheless, he said, "I won't make you wait that long."
