Newcomer Shinichiroh Ueda plays male lead in Shūzō Oshimi's suspense story

The official website for The Flowers of Evil (Aku no Hana) suspense television anime confirmed the cast on Saturday. Shinichiroh Ueda, a finalist in the 24th Junon Super Boy Contest, is making his voice-acting debut as Takao Kasuga, a bookish boy who loves the poems of Charles Baudelaire (the original author of the poetry collection Les Fleurs du mal or Flowers of Evil). Mariya Ise will play Sawa Nakamura, a girl that Takao loathes, while Yōko Hikasa will play Nanako Saeki, the girl he has a crush on.

One day after school, Kasuga discovers and steals the gym clothes of Saeki. However, he learns that Nakamura happens to catch him in the act. Sawa blackmails Kasuga into a "contract," or else she will reveal his secret.

Hiroshi Nagahama (Mushi-Shi, Detroit Metal City) is directing the anime at ZEXCS using a nontraditional process. The anime will air in Japan this spring. There will be advance screenings of the first episode in Gunma Prefecture on March 20 and in Tokyo on March 21.

Shūzō Oshimi launched the original manga in the inaugural issue of Kodansha's Bessatsu Shōnen Magazine in 2009, and Kodansha published the seventh book volume in December . Vertical will publish the fifth volume in North America in April.
