Tamagotchi Gets A 1996 Throwback with Original Characters and Faceplates

How's this for Throwback Thursday? Premium Bandai's latest Tamagotchi 4U has a special add-on that allows players to download first-gen black-and-white 8-bit characters, and customize the device with retro faceplates.
Each set comes with two faceplates and two cards that let you download 1996 Mametchi and 1996 Oyajitchi. Players can also switch up their backgrounds to the original 1996 backgrounds, or play the acchi-muite-hoi mini-game.
The "TOUCH 4U Card & Cover Set - Time Travel to 1996 ver." will be available for 2,592 yen (about US$22) for the set, or 9,050 yen with a Tamagotchi 4U (about $77). Premium Bandai will accept pre-orders beginning today. The items are expected to ship in May.
