Official Initial D Cars Will Compete in All Japan Rally Championship Round

posted on by Lynzee Loveridge

Takumi Fujiwara will ride again, this time wrapped around the front of Toyota's newest 86. Two Initial D cars will compete in the 2015 All Japan Rally Championship Round 2 in Ehime prefecture as part of the promotional campaign for the Shin Gekijō-ban Initial D Legend 2 -Tōsō- film. A panda-colored "Fujiwara Tofu Shop 86" for Cusco and a red and black Morpho Initial D Sammy K186 will compete. The latest version of the Toyoto 86 is being marketed in the U.S. as the Scion FR-S.

The red and black 86 will race on April 25-26 at the Okayama International Circuit and the panda 86 will race at the Ogiyahagi no Aisha Henreki Festival in Odaiba on April 29 to May 3. Both will then race together at the All Japan Rally Championship Round 2 in Ehime on May 8-10.

Manabu "MAX" Orido will drive the red and black 86 and he also claims to be a fan of the Initial D series. He also drives cars in the D1 Grand Prix and Super GT races.

Shin Gekijō-ban Initial D Legend 2 -Tōsō- is the second film in the Initial D film trilogy. The film trilogy retells the beginning of the story from Shuuichi Shigeno's original car-racing manga. High school student Takumi Fujiwara works as a gas station attendant during the day and a delivery boy for his father's tofu shop during late nights. Little does he know that his precise driving skills and his father's modified Toyota Sprinter AE86 Trueno make him the best amateur road racer on Mt. Akina's highway. Because of this, racing groups from all over Gunma Prefecture issue challenges to Takumi to see if he really has what it takes to be a road legend.
