Cospa Announces Top Cosplay of 2016

Cospa, Japan's main cosplay retailer, announced on January 1 the most popular cosplay items of 2016.

1. Sound! Euphonium: Girls' summer uniform


2. High School Fleet: School uniform


3. Love Live! Sunshine!!: School uniform


4. Persona 5: Boys' school uniform

6. Girls und Panzer: Kuromorimine Girls' High School panzer jacket


7. Kan Colle: Kashima


8. Brave Witches: Naoe


9. Danganronpa: Nagito's coat


10. Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion R2: Girls' school uniform

While there are certain evergreen titles that consistently generate cosplay year to year, Cospa claims that in 2015 cosplay from that year's anime became popular. The trend grew stronger in 2016, with the release of the Sound! Euphonium movie and the winter/summer options between the school uniforms driving interest in Sound! Euphonium cosplay. Cospa credits cosplayers modeling High School Fleet uniforms in events for driving sales of that cosplay.

Love Live! conquered the cosplay rankings in both 2015 and 2014. Attack on Titan and Kan Colle also did well both years.
