Kyoto's Historic Nijō Castle Hosts Legend of the Galactic Heroes Event Featuring Ryo Horikawa

UNESCO World Heritage Site Nijō Castle in Kyoto will host a banquet event titled, "Legend of the Galactic Heroes Kyoto Spin-off, The Brocade Flag Sparkles at Nijō Castle (Golden Ruby)." The event will be held on June 17-18, and will feature a guest appearance by Ryō Horikawa, the voice of Legend of the Galactic Heroes protagonist Reinhard von Lohengramm.
The event is sponsored by the sake company Shiraito and Cafe Seealder, a Legend of the Galactic Heroes-themed cafe located in Osaka. Shiraito produced a special Legend of the Galactic Heroes sake cask that will be traditionally broken at the event.
The banquet will include a "Legend of the Galactic Heroes Japanese Confectionary Open-Air Tea Ceremony" with matcha and cakes featuring images of the characters. There will also be a themed bar with character image cocktails, sake, German wine, and various other themed alcoholic drinks and exclusive food items.
The event will be held from 11 AM to 4 PM on Saturday, June 17 and Sunday, June 18. Deluxe tickets are priced at 2500 yen (about USD $23), and general admission is 1500 yen (about USD $14). Deluxe tickets can be purchased on the Shiraito website and the Cafe Seeadler website beginning April 11, and general admission tickets can be purchased at the door.
The Legend of the Galactic Heroes franchise, an original work of Yoshiki Tanaka, spans over thirty years, beginning with the release of the first novel in 1982. The space opera series has 10 main novel volumes and four side story volumes, which have sold 15 million copies and earned Tanaka a Seiun Award. The novels are licensed by Viz Media, and the first three were already released in English.
The late director Noboru Ishiguro (Macross, Orguss, Megazone 23) and his Artland anime studio spent more than a decade adapting the novels into a theatrical and video anime franchise, with over 100 installments, from 1988 to 2000. Sentai Filmworks licensed the video anime series for home video.
Production I.G will produce a new Legend of the Galactic Heroes anime project sometime in 2017.
