Yuri on Ice's Sayo Yamamoto Directs Sex Manga Anime Promo

posted on by Lynzee Loveridge

Director Sayo Yamamoto is teaming up again with manga creator Atsushi Kamijou to direct a promotional video for his manga Sex. The pair previously collaborated on Yamamoto's Japan Anima(tor)'s Exhibition ice-skating short "Endless Night," which could be considered a precursor to the director's hit anime series Yuri!!! on Ice. Kamijou designed the characters for "Endless Night."

The Sex promotional video is also reuniting Kamijou with character designer Naoyuki Onda who previously worked on the original video adaptation of Kamijou's TO-Y manga 30 years ago. If the project doesn't sound enticing enough already, Yuri!!! on Ice and Garo -Vanishing Line- studio MAPPA is producing the animation project.

Character design sketches of lead characters Natsu, Yuki, and Kaho were revealed on Tuesday.

The anime depicts an original story before Kaho arrives, when Yuki and Natsu have just met in Okinawa.

The promotional video is a home video exclusive titled "Sex ~Prologue~." Customers must first purchase all four volumes of the Sex 30th Anniversary Edition manga volumes, take the tickets included in volumes 1-3 and send them with the postcard included with volume 4. The Blu-ray Disc will be sent to buyers in March 2018 so long as the postcard is postmarked before December 31.

Kamijou launched Sex in Shogakukan's Young Sunday magazine in 1989 and it originally ran for seven volumes. The rebellious young adult story follows Kaho who, after a trip to Okinawa to relocate her old friend Natsu, begins hanging around with a car thief named Yuki.
