City Workers Recreate Laid-Back Camp's Mt. Fuji Visual

posted on by Jennifer Sherman

A fair number of anime fans seem to be among the employees of the city of Fujinomiya, Shizuoka. The city's official Twitter account tweeted that Fujinomiya "might" appear in the fourth episode of Laid-Back Camp, which premiered on Thursday. The Tweet included a photograph of apparent city employees recreating the anime's key visual.

The Tweet noted that the workers are "around 30 or 40" years old and called the ensemble "Ojikyan." The name is a pun on the words for an adult male and "camp" from the anime's title. The worker representing the character Nadeshiko in the photo is holding the first volume of the original manga instead of a snack as in the illustration.

Although it's currently the off-season for hiking and camping in Japan, fans can also visit the grounds of Mt. Fuji to recreate scenes from the anime. If the effort works up an appetite, they can use an official anime grill to cook up some grub.

The camping television anime series premiered on January 4, and Crunchyroll is streaming the series as it airs.

Afro's Yurucamp (Yurukyan△, Laid-Back Camp Δ) "slow outdoor manga" follows two young women. Rin likes to go camping by herself along the lakes that provide a scenic view of Mt. Fuji. Nadeshiko loves to take cycling trips by herself to places where she can see Mt. Fuji. After they meet, Rin and Nadeshiko take camping trips, eat cup ramen together, and enjoy the scenery. Yen Press will release the first volume of the manga in March 2018.
