Voice Actors Kazuhiko Inoue, Mika Kanai Provide Recordings for Earthquake App

posted on by Jennifer Sherman

RC Solution Co.'s Yure! Kuru Call app is one of the various smartphone apps in Japan that alert users to earthquakes and other natural disasters. The iOS and Android app updated on Wednesday with a new version that offers recordings from voice actors Kazuhiko Inoue and Mika Kanai.

The main app is free and warns users about the severity and expected arrival time of earthquakes. In addition to text alerts, the free version offers a machine voice that can speak warning messages. A "premium plan" offers additional features, including the voice actors' recordings, for 120 yen (about US$1) per month. Users can select either the Inoue or Kanai option to hear messages such as "Scale [number]. Please protect yourself until the shaking subsides." in the voice actors' respective voices.

The Yure! Kuru Call earthquake emergency alert app launched in 2010. As of March 2018, the app has been downloaded more than 5.5 million times.

Inoue's anime roles include Mr. Osomatsu's Matsuzō Matsuno, Naruto's Kakashi Hatake, Natsume's Book of Friends' Nyanko-sensei, and Detective Conan's Ninzaburō Shiratori. Kanai has voiced characters such as Soreike! Anpanman's Melonpanna, Kirakira ☆ Precure a la Mode's Pekorin, When They Cry - Higurashi's Satoko Hōjō, and Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion's Kaguya Sumeragi.
