Director Yamakan Plans to Leave Twitter After Personal, Studio Accounts Suspended

posted on by Jennifer Sherman

Following the suspension of his personal and Twilight Studio accounts on Twitter, anime director Yutaka Yamamoto (also known as Yamakan; director of Wake Up, Girls!, Kannagi) responded to the situation on his blog. Previously a frequent and controversial poster, Yamakan plans to stop using Twitter.

Yamamoto posted an image of a suspension notice for his Twilight Studio account that he received from Twitter. The message did not provide a specific reason for the account's suspension. He added that his Philanimation account has also been suspended. In a previous blog post, Yamakan included an image of the notification for his personal account's suspension, which stated that he had violated Twitter's policies against abusive, threatening, and discriminatory behavior.

Yamakan then explained that even if the suspension of his Twilight Studio account is lifted, he no longer plans to use the account. Instead, the company will post updates on its Facebook page.

Likewise, Yamamoto plans to no longer use his personal account. The account is still suspended, but he said he plans to lock the account and not use it unless absolutely necessary. He will continue to use his blog and Facebook.

Yamakan criticized Twitter in his blog posts, describing the social media platform's actions a kind of "witch hunt" worse than oppression of freedom of speech. He said, "There's basically no point in yielding to a platform that's this dangerous and careless." He also described the situation as a "good opportunity" to leave Twitter.

Yamamoto is known for his inflammatory speech on Twitter and elsewhere online. Recently, he gained attention for blaming otaku and China for the cancellation of the [New Life+] Young Again in Another World anime.
