Students Animate Eizō-ken ni wa Te o Dasu na! Manga for College Contest

A meta competition to animate a short based on Sumito Ōwara's EIZO-ken ni wa Te o Dasu na! manga produced interesting results this week. The Nihon University College of Arts in Tokyo put its students in charge of a creating a short promotional video based on the work, which is itself about three girls who wanted to create an anime.
Eizō-ken ni wa Te o Dasu na! follows Midori, Tsubame, and Sayaka, an energetic trio who come together to turn their anime dream into a reality. Midori is nervous to create an anime alone. She meets Tsubame who appears to be a well-to-do girl but she really has artistic dreams of being an animator. Midori's best friend Sayaka has the financial sense to bring the project fruition and joins the pair on their quest.
The students at Nihon University College of Art were asked to capture the manga's charm. Approximately 30 students submitted their proposals for the contest and from that group, eight pairs were selected to make promotional videos. The videos premiered at the college's Nichigo Festival 2018 event on November 3 where the grand prize winner was announced. Second-year students Chihiro Izumi and Minano Ōmori created the winning piece showing characters Midori, Tsubame, and Sayaka engaged in shogi match.
The video will be used in advertisements and is streaming on Big Comic Spirits' YouTube channel.
Ōwara launched EIZO-ken ni wa Te o Dasu na! in Shogakukan's Gekkan! Spirits magazine in 2016 and there are currently three volumes in print. The manga was nominated for the 11th Manga Taisho awards this year.
