Mushishi's Ghostly Soundtrack Inspires 5-Night Performances

posted on by Lynzee Loveridge

The haunting sounds of the Mushishi Tokubetsu-hen: Hihamukage anime will echo through the DDD Aoyama Cross Theater in Shibuya on December 12-17. The venue is hosting the "Mushishi: Music Night Story -Mushin Oto Sō-" and retells the story through music and live performance.

The event combines a stage play, video, and music for a unique experience. Mushishi Tokubetsu-hen: Hihamukage composer Toshio Masuda is handling the music for the production and voice actors Yuto Nakano (Ginko), Mika Doi (Narrator), Yūji Ueda (Adashino-sensei), and Ai Kobayashi (Tanyū) will appear at the event.

The anime special's story takes place after an eclipse. One area of the sun remains dark and mushi expert Ginko decides to investigate. He must determine how to return the sun to a village before all of the crops die and figure out how the event is connected to a pair of twin girls.

Tickets go on sale on November 17 for 8,800 yen (US$78) each.

Yuki Urushibara launched the Mushishi manga in Kodansha's Afternoon Seasons Zōkan magazine in 1999 before it moved to Monthly Afternoon in 2002. The manga ended in 2005 after 10 volumes. Urushibara returned to create two more chapters in 2013. These chapters tell the Mushishi Tokubetsu-hen: Hihamukage that inspired the anime special and now the live performance.
