Viz announces new comics, videos

posted on

In a regular press release, Viz announced a new Pokémon monthly comic series, based on the Gameboy game-turned international hit TV series. Initially a four-issue series already released by Viz, the sequel, entitled "Pikachu Strikes Back", will begin in March of '99. Written by Toshihiro Ono, each issue is 32-40 pages long and will retail for $2.95 to $3.25 in the US.

Viz also announced its re-release of the Silent Möbius manga in a graphic novel format. In 1993, after a shake-up of original licensor Kadokawa Shoten (after president Haruki Kadokawa was arrested on drug charges), the rights reverted back to original artist Kia Asamiya, and Viz lost their license of the seires. Viz has re-appropriated the series and will release it in graphic novel format (in its original black and white, as opposed to their original colorized release) starting March of 1999.

Viz also announced a March '99 release of the first part of the second series of the popular Dragon Ball manga (by Akira Toriyama), a new Black Jack graphic novel, Gundam 0079 (8-part anime adaption by Kazuhisa Kondō, in the process, spilling the beans of AnimeVillage.com's yet-to-be-announced Gundam 0079 anime release), the 13th volume of Ranma 1/2 graphic novel, as well as the next Ranma 1/2 Outta Control (Nettohen TV series) dubbed release, "Great Eggspectations" and a subtitled release of Maison Ikkoku, "The Folks Can't Help It".
