Steam Boy Resurfaces with Financial Backing

Katsuhiro Ōtomo´s Steam Boy will finally see a release after six years.

Six years ago after making Akira, Katsuhiro Ōtomo made another another movie. The movie was a pilot for a Steam Boy. Due to financial problems and lack of reliable sponsors the film was put on hiatus back in 1998.

Production I.G AND Sunrise have taken up the cause and decided to release the show. There is no information on an Official release date or a release outside of Japan. Otomo was quoted saying sometime next Autumn though.

At the Digital Contents Association held recently in Shinagawa a new trailer of Steam Boy was shown. It has been announced that more artwork will be shown at Tokyo Fantastic Film Festival.

Hiroaki Ando and Shinji Takagi from Production I.G will be involved with the animation. The have said that the movie will feature around 400 3D-cuts. Steam Boy will be will rely heavily on CG graphics much as Blood: The Last Vampire did.
