Bandai Japan to present shareholders with a special version of Gundam's Mascot "Robo Haro."

Bandai Japan Press Release:

Bandai Co., Ltd. announced today a decision to present a special version of the 'Mascot Robo Haro' pet robot to those shareholders in possession of 1,000 or more Bandai shares as of March 31, 2002. In addition, those shareholders with 100 or more shares will be presented with a gift voucher worth 1,000 yen, exchangeable for toys and other goods at toy stores. The robots and vouchers in question are due to be sent out to shareholders in early July.

The Mascot Robo Haro (selling for 3,980 yen before tax) is a robotic version of the mascot character 'Haro' which appears in the animated series Mobile Suit Gundam. A pet robot, capable of responding to voices and other sounds, speaking, moving its ears and other acts, the toy was originally predicted to sell 120,000 units in its first year. However, since going on sale on February 24, the robot has won popularity not only with men in their 20s and 30s, but with women too. This unexpected sales potential has induced Bandai to revise its sales predictions up to 200,000 units for the first six months. Wishing to share the joys afforded by this exciting new product with its shareholders, Bandai has produced a special version featuring new color combinations.

The Mobile Suit Gundam animated series is produced by Sunrise Inc. a member of the Bandai Group, and all characters appearing therein are original Bandai characters. The Bandai Group, based around the parent company Bandai Co., Ltd. produces and sells models, video games, image software, network content and a wide variety of other products, and its toys and figures are popular throughout the U.S. and Europe. Total fiscal 2001 group sales for Gundam-related products are expected to come to 33.5 billion yen.
