AX 2002: Bandai Panel

posted on by Christopher Macdonald
Bandai Licenses Love Hina episdeo 25 and X-Mas special, along with other titles. Planning a Cowboy Bebop favorite episodes disc.

Please note, all items here have been confirmed (independantly of the panel) with Bandai.

Jerry Chu and Ken Iyodomi of Bandai Entertainment hosted this year's Bandai panel at AX. Jerry began by showing off a handful of previews for upcoming shows (namely Arjuna and .hack//SIGN), followed by some discussion of new acquisitions. The list they gave included:

Argento Soma
Melty Lancer
.hack//SIGN
Infinite Ryvius
Kikaider 01
Love Hina episode 25 + X-mas Special

The Love Hina OVAs are still in negotiation, according to Ken. The other big speculated Bandai title, Big O season 2, is "Top Secret", and could not be discussed.

Jerry discussed plans to release a DVD that includes the top 5 or 6 Cowboy Bebop episodes, each done in 5.1 Dolby Digital for a limited edition collector's deal. They also mentioned Arjuna volume 1, launching in October, and noted that it's the Director's edition (which includes Director's commentary by Shōji Kawamori, as well as additional animation, cut from the original Japanese TV broadcast), and is in both anamorphic widescreen and DD 5.1.

Carried by the Wind: Tsukikage Ran volume 1 will be available in August, and will span across 4 discs. Mobile Fighter G-Gundam will premiere on Cartoon Network in August as well, in the "Toonami" block.

While it's a little vague, Bandai confirmed that the Ronin Warriors OAV will be coming sometime in 2003.

On the video games front, they mentioned that the upcoming .hack PS2 game will include an OAV episode, unavailable for purchase elsewhere. Don't have a PS2? No need to fear! The OVA is expected to be playable on most "standard" DVD players, the director said.
