BAAF to run Anime on Time Square Astro Screen

posted on by Christopher Macdonald
Anime on the BIG Screen.

The Big Apple Anime Festival (BAAF) has sent out a PR announcing that Panasonic, the Official Audio/Visual Technology Supplier of BAAF, will display two 15-second anime segments throughout the day on the NBC/Panasonic Astrovision screen in the heart of Times Square for one week, from August 26th through September 2nd.

While the press release doesn't explicitly state which Anime the segments will come from, it does mention "much anticipated World Premiere and Exclusive Sneak Preview titles from TriStar Pictures and DreamWorks," referring obviously to Cowboy Bebop: The Movie (TriStar) and Millennium Actress (DreamWorks) . Also mentioned are "classic titles from companies such as Central Park Media." (Central Park Media is essentially the organization behind BAAF).

Later in the PR one of the titles is mentioned by name, but not in reference to the Astrovision screen, "The festival will feature the world premiere the theatrical English dubbed version of "Cowboy Bebop: The Movie," a sci-fi action adventure scheduled for theatrical release by TriStar Pictures in early 2003. At the premiere, Cowboy Bebop director, Shinichiro Watanabe, score composer, Yoko Kanno and Character Designer, Toshihiro Kawamoto will be on hand to meet their legions of fans. Cowboy Bebop is also currently an enormously popular animated TV show, currently seen in the U.S. on the Cartoon Network."
