Two new anime-based video games are due out in Japan this year.

Saishū Heiki Kanojo ("She, The Ultimate Weapon") is based on the anime series of the same name. SaiKano will be an adventure game with multiple branching storylines and animated segments not found in the anime series. Screenshots are available here on Magic Box. The PS2 game will be released in Japan on May 29th for 6800 yen.

Bandai also announced that they are working on a Neon Genesis Evangelion RPG, due out at the end of the year. No further information was provided.

In other news, Sega and Sammy will be merging, to be completed in October of this year. The merger is expected to be worth $1.1 billion. Due to weak software sales since they left the hardware market in 2001, Sega has cut profit expectations to 500 million yen ($4.1 million USD). The company holds approximately 56 billion yen of debt. Sammy, meanwhile, has increased its profit and income for the past two years and has almost no debt. Sega produces many anime-based video games, including Gungrave with character designs by Yasuhiro Nightow (creator of Trigun).

Finally, in Tokyo yesterday Square and Enix announced the official name of their new merged company. The corporation, which will begin its operations on April 1st, will be called Square Enix. The first title published under the new name will be the Final Fantasy XI expansion disk, Vision of Ziraat, while the last titles under the original names will be Final Fantasy X-2 for Square, and Dragon Quest Monsters III: Caravan Heart for Enix.
