Official Website says Steamboy will be in Theaters in July

Following a delay from the originally planned October 2003 release date, the official Steamboy website announced yesterday that Steamboy will be released in theaters in July of 2004, an exact date has not yet been set. According to a separate press release from Bandai Visual, production on the movie is nearly finished, it is expected to be complete in March.

At roughly 2.4 billion yen, the 9 year production of Steamboy could potentially edge out Princess Mononoke as the most expensive anime ever made. Princess Mononoke cost 2.35 billion yen to produce. In comparison, at 800 million yen, The Wings of Honneamise was the most expensive anime of its time.
