Animerica to Radically Change Distribution

posted on by Christopher Macdonald
Animerica to cease retail and subscriber sales, will only be available at conventions.

According to ICv2, Viz has decided to cease regular distribution of Animerica, and make the magazine only available at conventions. The June, 2005 (Volume 13, No. 6) issue is to be the last issue available to subscribers and the retail market.

Subsequent issues will be distributed at anime conventions, starting with Anime Expo in July.

Anime News Network has not been able to confirm any details with Viz at this time.

Animerica is North America's second longest running anime magazine (after Protoculture Addicts), and has been in publication for twelve years. According to Animerica's media kit, the magazine had a circulation of approximately 45,000 copies a month at the end of last year. This number has fallen in recent years, partially due to increasing competition from other magazines.

Viz recently canceled Animerica's sister publication, Animerica Extra and launched a new monthly shoujo anthology called Shojo Beat.
