More Exposure for Anime Music Wanted

Japanese group aims to increase exposure of anime music by helping Negima CD achieve top sales position

Some Japanese anime fans are distraught at the poor attention that music ranking shows give to anime songs that rank in the weekly Oricon Top Ten Oricon. When compared to other big name artists, anime songs that reach the top ten are given significantly less attention.

Even when "Mahou Sensei Negima! April Version" went on sale and shot up the Oricon charts to reach the number three position, many shows gave it the cold shoulder or ignored it completely as if it didn't even exist on the charts. The last straw for some fans was when a musical guest on a radio show made the comment "I hope these [anime] things would just go away" out of irritation that anime songs were beating larger, more famous artists.

Starting with a thread in the Japanese 2ch board, a crusader group has formed with the goal of pushing "Mahou Sensei Negima! May Version" (on sale June 8th) to the number one position on that week's Oricon charts so that music shows have little choice but to pay attention and give it the credit that it deserves.

This group has started a website that calls for all people (anime and non-anime fans alike) to support their cause by buying or pre-ordering "Mahou Sensei Negima! May Version" on June 8th and their subsequent monthly CD releases. Only major retail stores, approved by Oricon, are counted towards the sales figures for ranking on Oricon's charts.

They ask supporters who live outside of Japan to provide their support by buying the CD through Amazon Japan.

Oricon is a Japanese service, similar to North America's Billboard, that provides weekly rankings of the top selling music and movies.
