Marmalade Boy Misunderstanding

posted on by Christopher Macdonald
Viz has not announced any license for the Marmalade Boy manga.

A few sites are reporting that Viz has "licensed" Marmalade Boy. This stems from a report that points out that the Marmalade Boy license is no longer available for renewal to Tokyopop because of the relationship between Shueisha and Viz. Shueisha, the Japanese publisher of Marmalade Boy, is one of three owners of Viz Media (along with Shogakukan and Sho-Pro).

Shueisha and Shogakukan are Japan's two largest manga publishers, the third largest is Kodansha, which has a close relationship with Del Rey and its parent company, Random House. To date, all of Del Rey's manga titles were published in Japan by Kodansha.

Tokyopop however announced some Kodansha titles this year, including Beck and The Telepathic Wanderers.
