Popular Japanese entertainment company, Yoshimoto Kōgyō, moves into the Manga business

During their annual New Year Press Conference, Japanese talent agency Yoshimoto Kōgyō announced the founding of a manga magazine, Comic Yoshimoto, as part of a joint venture with Wani Books. The first issue of the magazine, which will be aimed at Salarymen and white-collar workers aged 20-40, comes out this spring in Japan. Yoshimoto Kōgyō also plans to release short films directed by its comedians "in the near future."

New issues will be sold twice a month at a cost of 320 yen per copy. Yoshimoto Kōgyō plans on printing 250,000 copies of the first issue, which will be sold at bookstores and convenience stores throughout Japan.About 12 or 13 stories will be serialized in the magazine (or 20 to 25 if smaller short comics are also counted). Titles in the manga will be affiliated with stars, athletes and other members of Yoshimoto Kōgyō.
Yoshimoto Kōgyō announced the move into publishing with the creation of the new magazine.

Yoshimoto Kōgyō is one of the most well-known entertainment companies in Japan. Their most popular contribution to Japanese Pop Culture comes through the many performers of manzai that got their start with the company (Manzai is a popular style of two-person vaudeville stand-up comedy). Many comedians and stars that have come from Yoshimoto Kōgyō have gone on to host popular TV variety shows and earn starring roles in films and TV dramas. Some notable Yoshimoto Kōgyō members include the manzai duos Ninety Nine, Cocorico, and Downtown, who also host the popular TV music show HEY! HEY! HEY! Music Champ.
