Kodansha announces international manga competition

In connection with the 25th anniversary of Morning, the most prominent Japanese weekly manga magazine aimed at an older audience, its publisher, Kodansha, has announced an international manga contest that will be open to authors and artists from around the world. Creators are invited to submit works of between 12 and 50 pages, written either in English, Japanese, or their native language, postmarked by May 31, 2007. Any work submitted must not have been published before, either in a magazine or independently.
The grand prize winner will be featured in Morning, and will receive US$5000. One of Morning's most experienced editors will also be assigned to assist the winner with further development of their entry, including possible publication as a stand-alone book, either in Japan or abroad. There will also be two US$2000 second prize awards, and those works may be published either in Morning or on the Morning website
At this point, the contest website has the entry rules published in Chinese, English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Korean, Swedish and Thai, but there is nothing in the rules that seems to prohibit applicants from other countries.
