The Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, DC has announced that it will host the world premiere of Genius Party, a Studio 4°C anthology of short animated works by leading Japanese animators. Genius Party, which was first announced over two years ago, is expected to be shown in Japanese theaters this summer. Its goal, according to the official project website, is to present to viewers a new generation of world-class animators. Directors who participated in this project include Kōji Morimoto, director of the Magnetic Rose segment of Memories and animation director of Mind Game, Shinichiro Watanabe (Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo), Hidekia Futamura (key animator for Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust and the Beyond and Detective Story segments of The Animatrix) and Tadashi Hiramatsu, among whose credits are Nadia - The Secret of Blue Water (as animation director) and Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex (key animation). The slate of participating directors also features well-known European comic artist and animator Nicholas de Crecy. Following the Kennedy Center premiere, Genius Party will tour to other major film festivals throughout the world.
