Fafner and Evangelion Anime Go Online

Two shows available through Japanese streaming video content sites

The popularity of online (or "streaming") broadcast anime in Japan got a huge boost this week as two sites announced the free online broadcast of two big name mecha anime: Fafner and Neon Genesis Evangelion.

All 26 episodes of Fafner are scheduled to be "re-released" at the pace of one episode a day starting on April 22nd. Japanese video website GyaO! is hosting the series. GyaO! is also the online home of Production I.G's new Sisters of Wellber anime and select episodes of other series.

Meanwhile, the video content area of Yahoo! Japan is hosting the first 5 episodes of Neon Genesis Evangelion for free until May 22nd. Yahoo! Japan is also hosting official web content for the upcoming Evangelion theatrical anime.

Due to issues surrounding illegal online distribution of anime, many areas of both GyaO! and Yahoo! Japan are now limited exclusively to customers with Japan-based IP addresses.
