30-Million-Yen Gundam Comes Home

posted on by Mikhail Koulikov
Pure platinum figure goes on display at Japanese hobby event

The Gundam FIX Platinum figure that Bandai commissioned jewelry company Ginza Tanaka to build will return to Japan after being exhibited at Switzerland's Baselworld jewelry show. On August 18 and 19, Bandai will unveil it to the Japanese public at the C3×Hobby event, which will be held at the Makuhari Messe convention center in Chiba Prefecture.

The 1/144-scale, 12.5-centimeter (4.9-inch) robot, which was designed by Hajime Katoki, is composed of 89 individual parts made of pure platinum and a 0.15-carat diamond (for the camera eye in the head). Bandai estimates its retail value at 30 million yen (US$250,000). Following C3×Hobby, the Gundam FIX Platinum will be exhibited at several Ginza Tanaka stores, as well as other shows and exhibitions outside of Japan. It is not for sale.
