Shoji Kawamori Draws Powered Suit to Pitch Nissan SUV

Latest foray for Macross/Escaflowne co-creator, Transformers/Aibo co-designer

Designer/director Shōji Kawamori has designed the Dualis powered suit concept for the promotional campaign of Nissan's new compact SUV of the same name. The Nissan Gallery in Tokyo's Ginza shopping district will exhibit a three-meter (ten-foot) tall model of the suit from May 23 to June 13.

In addition to directing, writing, and designing for the Macross, Escaflowne, and Aquarion anime series, Kawamori drew conceptual designs for Takara's Transformers toyline (notably the Diaclone Car Robot designs that became Optimus Prime, Bluestreak, and Prowl) and Sony's ERS-220 Aibo robotic dog variant. Kawamori was an aerospace engineering student before leaving Keio University to work on Macross.

Nissan had previously added concept car cameos in Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex: Solid State Society. The Dualis SUV will not be sold in North America, but will be sold internationally elsewhere as the Qashqai.
