Production I.G Posts More Kanno Interview, Less Profit

I.G hosts more of composer's interview while announcing 36% profit drop

The Japanese animation company Production I.G posted the third and final part of an English-translated interview with composer Yoko Kanno (Cowboy Bebop, Escaflowne, Macross Plus) in its Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex: Solid State Society website section. In it, she describes how opening animation director Tetsuya Nishio's dreams influenced her opening theme and how she played the "big sister" to director Kenji Kamiyama. The clappa! website posted the original Japanese interview.

Separately, I.G announced on June 13 that its recalculated profits for the fiscal year ending in May 2007 dropped 36% from last year to 273 million yen (about US$2.23 million). The company cited the broadcast end of several of its series as well as a decline in DVD and merchandise sales. The sales-profit ratio dropped three points as revenue increased 2% to 5.546 billion yen (US$45.34 million).

I.G had recently announced that it is merging its management with that of the Japanese manga publisher Mag Garden on December 1. Just as in Friday's year-end financial report, the merger announcement had also cited slow DVD sales for the changing business environment.
