Overseas Naruto Business Boosts TV Tokyo's Profits

posted on by Egan Loo
Latin America joined North America, Europe in broadcasting Naruto

The Japanese broadcaster and licenser TV Tokyo announced on November 13 its final, revised mid-term financial information and full-year forecast for the 2008 fiscal year (April 2007 to March 2008), and credited its higher profits to the overseas success of Naruto and its other anime properties as well as better expense management. Naruto began airing in Latin America this year after successful launches in North America and Europe.

TV Tokyo reported 59.130 billion yen (about US$535.8 million) in sales from the first two quarters, which is down from its earlier forecast of 59.9 billion yen (US$543 million) and down from 61.722 billion yen (US$559 million) in the same period last year. However, it reported a mid-term net profit of 1.028 billion yen (US$9.315 million) instead of the previous forecast of 700 million yen (US$6 million). Likewise, its full-year forecast for sales dropped from 122.6 billion yen (US$1.111 million) to 119.5 billion yen (US$1.083 million), but its full-year forecast for net profit rose from 1.6 billion yen (US$14.5 million) to 1.7 billion yen (US$15.4 million). This profit forecast is 30.3% higher than the last fiscal year's profit.
