Anime News Network at New York Anime Festival

posted on by Christopher Macdonald
Event reports, video coverage, 8 panels in which we'll be involved ...

As mentioned elsewhere, the Anime News Network is a sponsor of the New York Anime Festival, and we will be covering the event as extensively as any other major anime convention. In addition to our usual coverage, the ANN staffers will also be partaking in, hosting, or moderating a number of panels and roundtables.

Coverage on AnimeNewsNetwork.com will include our traditional panel coverage — with all the news from every industry panel — video coverage from the convention floor, and various events.

The ANN staff will be participating in the following events at New York Anime Festival and the preceding ICv2 Conference on Anime and Manga:

Marketing to the Otaku Generation - Thursday, 1:45 p.m.
The otaku generation makes its entertainment and purchasing decisions in ways that traditional marketing often miss. Panelists discuss the key roles of the Internet, the ways that brands are built-in specialty retailers, and how break-out hits reach across distribution channels and product categories to become true mass brands.

Translation Roundtable - Saturday, 12:00 pm.
What's it take to bring manga to America? Who are the men and women who turn literal Japanese into conversational English? Sit back as the translators and editors of some of America's biggest manga publishers talk about their difficulties, heartbreaks, and helpful hints. Moderated by ANN's Evan Miller.

Anime & Manga Research Roundtable - Saturday, 1:00 p.m.
ANN's Mikhail Koulikov presents an update on the current state of scholarship and academic research into all aspects of anime and manga. This panel will help you identify your own topics to research, introduce you to other scholars in the field, and maybe even help you publish your latest thoughts on why Neon Genesis Evangelion is the most incisive commentary on the current state of Western society ever. Panelists include Ph.D. students and professors from various NYC colleges.

Anime News Network - Saturday, 3:00 p.m.
ANN is the most trusted and most popular name in anime news. Join its staff for a revealing look at all the hard work that goes on behind the scenes of AnimeNewsNetwork.com. ANN will be giving away tons of brand new swag from our sponsors, as well as classic swag that … we want to get out of our closets.
